This specialty dentistry deals primarily with children from birth through adolescence.  They recommend starting to care for children after they receive their first tooth or by their first birthday. Some Pediatric Dentists care for patients with special needs.  They go to school for an extra two to three years after receiving their dental degree and are schooled in child psychology to help learn to gain the trust of children.  They teach the children the importance in caring for their teeth in order to prevent tooth decay by teaching the how to brush, floss and fluoride.
